Transfer of credits is at the discretion of the home institution. ECTS, the European Community Course Credit Transfer System, was developed by the Commission of the European Communities in order to provide common procedures to guarantee academic recognition of studies abroad. It provides a way of measuring and comparing learning achievements, and transferring them from one institution to another. ECTS is a learner-centred system for credit accumulation and transfer, based on the principle of transparency of the learning, teaching and assessment processes. ECTS stands for the European Credit Transfer System and is used to allow grades to be converted by higher education institutions across the European Union.
